South Park’s Kenny started as a real childhood friend of American TV creator Trey Parker, a boy named Kenny who was the poorest kid in their neighborhood. He wore an orange parka that made him hard to understand, which became part of the character’s identity. He also skipped school so often that the other kids joked he had died. A few days later, he would just show up again, and that running gag became Kenny’s signature.
