Singapore has an official Ethnic Integration Policy (EIP) that regulates the ethnic composition of public housing estates. Introduced in 1989, the policy sets limits on how many units in each Housing and Development Board (HDB) block and neighborhood can be owned by households from specific ethnic groups. The system was designed to prevent the formation of ethnic enclaves and encourage daily interaction among Chinese, Malay, Indian, and other communities in the city-state.
