Actress Angela Lansbury, who voiced Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast (1991), initially hesitated to sing the film’s title song because its style felt unfamiliar to her and she worried her aging singing voice might not hold the long notes. Despite those concerns, she agreed to try recording the song. Lansbury then performed the entire piece in a single take during the recording session. The version recorded that day became the final song used in the film.
