In North Carolina in the early 1980s, Charles William Davis, a murderer and suspected serial killer, worked as an ambulance attendant while secretly attacking women. Davis raped and strangled his victims, then dumped their bodies along roads that fell within his ambulance service routes. He sometimes called in anonymous tips about the bodies, ensuring that his ambulance crew would be dispatched to the scene. Authorities eventually connected the crimes to Davis, and in 1982 the serial killer suspect was convicted of a murder and sentenced to life in prison.
