On April 28, 1979, in Wichita, Kansas, Anna Williams, age 63, unknowingly avoided becoming the next victim of serial killer Dennis Rader, the BTK killer. Rader had already broken into her home and waited for hours inside her bedroom closet, planning to attack when she returned. Williams came home much later than expected after visiting friends, and the frustrated killer eventually left without carrying out the murder. Weeks later, Rader mailed her a poem titled “Oh, Anna, Why Didn’t You Appear?”, taunting her about the night she unknowingly escaped death.
