After his arrest in 1973, Edmund Kemper, the California murderer known as the Co-Ed Killer, agreed to speak with FBI agent Robert Ressler, one of the pioneers of criminal profiling. Ressler conducted interviews with Kemper to understand the psychology and behavior patterns behind multiple murders committed in Santa Cruz, California. During one meeting, Kemper calmly told the agent that if he chose to, he could easily kill him before anyone arrived to help. After encounters like this, the FBI eventually prohibited solo interviews with a serial killer, requiring agents to conduct such sessions with backup present.
