Our brain is constantly eating itself in a process called phagocytosis, where cells envelop and consume smaller cells or molecules to remove them from the system. In the brain, this cellular eating clears debris and unwanted material so the organ can maintain normal function. The same mechanism also helps remove unneeded connections, especially as we mature, so resources go to more useful neural pathways.
