In 2017, a Chinese woman named Yan from Nanjing bought a new iPhone X and discovered that her coworker could consistently unlock it using the phone's facial recognition feature, even though the device was registered to Yan. Apple gave Yan a refund and she then bought a replacement iPhone X, but her coworker could again unlock it the same way, and Apple issued a second refund after confirming the same faulty Face ID behavior.
