Carl Weathers Insults Stallone, Wins

Carl Weathers was a retired NFL linebacker with only minor acting roles when he auditioned for the part of Apollo Creed in Rocky. During the audition, he complained that he could have done better if he were reading with a "real actor," not realizing he was talking about Sylvester Stallone. Stallone heard the remark and decided that blunt confidence was precisely what Apollo Creed would say, so Weathers got the role.
