Six-Fingered Hands Boost Dexterity

Babies born with extra digits are not that rare, and those with six fingers on one hand are able to play a complicated video game with a single hand, and their brains have no trouble controlling the more complex movements of their extra digits. In a 2019 study, scientists tested two people with fully functional sixth fingers and found that their extra digits had their own muscles and tendons and that their brains had dedicated control for them, giving them superior dexterity without any apparent cognitive cost.
