San Patricios Hanged In Mexico

During the Mexican-American War in 1847, 16 Irish Catholic soldiers deserted from the U.S. Army and joined Mexican forces, a group later associated with the San Patricio Battalion. They were eventually captured and hanged together from a 40-foot gallows in San Ángel, near Mexico City, as punishment for switching sides in the middle of the conflict.
