Alonzo Cushing Holds In Guts

In 1863, 22-year-old Civil War artillery officer Alonzo Cushing commanded his battery at Gettysburg during Pickett's Charge when a shell fragment disemboweled him, forcing him to hold in his intestines as he stayed at his guns. He refused to leave the line and kept giving orders until a bullet to the head killed him. In 2014 he was finally awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions that day.
