Tolkien Shrinks Gollum After Jansson

In the first edition of The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien never described Gollum’s size, so illustrators like Tove Jansson ended up portraying him as very large. Tolkien later noticed the omission and revised later editions to clarify that Gollum was "a small slimy creature."
