Rick Rescorla's Towers Attack Prediction

Rick Rescorla's Towers Attack Prediction

Rick Rescorla, Morgan Stanley’s head of security at the World Trade Center, repeatedly warned that the towers were prime targets, and his prediction of an attack came true with the 1993 bombing. Convinced another, even worse strike would follow, he drilled Morgan Stanley’s 2,687 employees in rapid evacuations, despite complaints and official reassurances. On September 11, 2001, when authorities told tenants to stay put, Rescorla ignored them and immediately ordered a full evacuation, using his bullhorn and practiced routines to move people out. His prediction of catastrophe tragically proved right, but his actions saved all but seven of his employees, and he died in the towers while making sure others got out.
