In 1909, Mark Twain made a bold prediction about his own death, saying, “I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it.” Twain had been born in 1835, the same year the comet passed close to Earth, and he linked his life story to its return. Halley's Comet appeared again in 1910, just as he had anticipated. Twain died on April 21, 1910, one day after the comet’s closest approach.
