French mathematician Abraham de Moivre noticed late in life that he seemed to be sleeping longer and longer, and he turned this into a personal prediction of his own death. He calculated that his daily sleep would eventually reach 24 hours and marked that future date on the calendar as the day he expected to die. According to accounts of his life, he did in fact die on that predicted day in 1754.
