In the mid-1990s, Eldon "El Duce" Hoke, a drummer and frontman of shock rock band the Mentors, claimed in interviews and in the documentary "Kurt & Courtney" that Courtney Love had offered him $50,000 to kill her husband, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. He later took a polygraph test about the alleged offer and reportedly passed, fueling conspiracy theories that Cobain had been murdered rather than dying by suicide.
Hoke went on to say that he knew who actually killed Cobain, hinting at another man but refusing to name him directly. Just days after filming his final interview about the case, El Duce was found dead on railroad tracks in Riverside, California, hit by a train, and his death was ruled an accident.
