San Francisco's Zebra Death Angels

San Francisco's Zebra Death Angels

Between 1973 and 1974, a group of men in San Francisco carried out a series of racially motivated attacks that became known as the Zebra murders, targeting white victims at random across the city. Police eventually tied at least 15 murders and several attempted murders to four members of a group calling themselves the Death Angels: J. C. X. Simon, Larry Green, Manuel Moore, and Jesse Lee Cooks.

Investigators alleged that the killers saw the attacks as a form of racial warfare, and some later suggested the group might have been responsible for more than 70 assaults and homicides in the Bay Area. In 1976, a California court convicted all four men on multiple counts of murder and attempted murder, and they received life sentences.
