In 1895, a 21-year-old Winston Churchill spent several months in Cuba and picked up a cigar-smoking habit, which he believed steadied his nerves. From then on, he smoked 8 to 10 cigars a day and kept that routine for nearly seven decades, right up until his death at 90.
