Jesse Lazear’s Deadly Mosquito Experiment

In 1900, American physician Jesse William Lazear, studying yellow fever transmission, deliberately let an infected mosquito bite him to test his belief that the disease spread through mosquito vectors. He soon developed yellow fever himself, confirming his hypothesis. Seventeen days after the experimental bite, Lazear died from the very disease he set out to understand.
