In Poltergeist (1982), the production filled the muddy backyard pool set with real human skeletons instead of rubber props for the scene where JoBeth Williams' character thrashes around among the corpses. At the time, the effects team considered actual medical skeletons cheaper and more realistic than custom-made fakes.
