In the 1984 film "This Is Spinal Tap," virtually all of the dialogue was improvised. The actors received loose outlines that only indicated where scenes would begin and end, then created all of their lines themselves in front of the camera. As often as possible, the filmmakers used the first take to preserve the most natural reactions and spontaneous moments.
