Chase Dellwo Gags Grizzly Bear

In October 2015, 26-year-old hunter Chase Dellwo was bowhunting elk near Great Falls, Montana, when he suddenly stumbled onto a sleeping grizzly in tall grass on a cold, windy day. The bear charged, knocked him down, and mauled his head and leg while he tried to protect his vital organs.

In the middle of the attack, Dellwo remembered an article his grandmother had given him about bears having a poor gag reflex, so he shoved his arm deep into the grizzly's throat until it choked and backed off. Bleeding heavily but alive, he walked back to find his brother, reached their vehicle, and later received stitches and staples at a hospital, surviving a mauling that could easily have killed him.
