Irish Deichtine Lugh Cu Chulainn

In Irish mythology, there is a story of a god divinely conceiving a child in a newlywed virgin's belly: the god Lugh places his child in Deichtine, who is betrothed to the mortal Sualtam. Ashamed to be pregnant by another man and facing scandal among the Ulstermen, she decides to abort the divine child and then goes to her husband's bed as a "virgin" bride. Deichtine later becomes pregnant by Sualtam and gives birth to a fully human baby, Sétanta. That boy grows up to be Cú Chulainn, one of Ireland's greatest heroes in the Ulster Cycle.
