Canaanite Adam Serpent Tree Myth

According to one reconstruction of Canaanite mythology (from the Bronze Age Middle East), Adam and Eve also existed there, with Adam portrayed as a god sent down by the great gods to save the Tree of Life and the world from a deadly serpent. In this reading of Ugaritic material, the rebellious god Horon turns into a huge serpent, poisons the Tree of Life, and covers the earth in a toxic fog. The great gods then dispatch Adam to restore life on earth, but the serpent bites him and ruins the mission. As a result, Adam and his wife lose their immortality.
