East German Trabant Duroplast Body

East German Trabant Duroplast Body

The Trabant was a car that was once made by an East German car manufacturer. It was unique in the sense that it had a body made of recycled cotton waste and resin called Duroplast instead of conventional steel panels. This unusual composite gave the small car a distinctive, lightweight shell that set it apart from Western models. The Trabant also did not have a fuel gauge, so owners had to open the tank and regularly check the fuel level with a dipstick to avoid being stranded.
