In Japan, Toyota once sold a stripped GT86 variant called the RC that came with steel wheels, unpainted plastic bumpers, no air conditioning, and no infotainment screen. Toyota built it this way so budget-minded enthusiasts could buy a cheaper, about 100 pound lighter base car and modify it themselves. Despite the missing comfort features, it kept the same front engine, rear wheel drive layout, and handling focus as the regular GT86.
