The Dokos shipwreck, found near the Greek island of Dokos in the Aegean Sea, is considered the oldest known shipwreck ever discovered. Archaeologists date it to around 2700β2200 BCE, placing it in the Early Helladic period of the Bronze Age. The site contains a large cargo of pottery and stone anchors that researchers interpret as the remains of a small merchant vessel. Because it predates other well-known ancient wrecks by thousands of years, it provides rare evidence for some of the earliest known seaborne trade in the Aegean.
