AWS S3 Typo Breaks Internet

On February 28, 2017, an Amazon engineer tried to troubleshoot the AWS S3 billing system and entered a command to take a few servers offline. Because of a simple typo, the command instead took down far more servers than intended. The mistake made around 150,000 websites and apps that relied on S3 unavailable. Many of those services stayed down for roughly half a day while Amazon worked to bring everything back online.
