Hero Street Silvis Illinois Sacrifice

On Second Street in Silvis, Illinois, a stretch of only one and a half blocks produced six men who died in World War II and two who died in the Korean War. Families from this tiny neighborhood sent sons into the U.S. military starting in the 1920s, and by the late 1960s more than 100 residents had served. In 1968, the town officially renamed the street Hero Street to recognize that extraordinary record of sacrifice.
