On June 5, 1951, during the Korean War, Master Sergeant Benjamin F. Wilson was already wounded and lying on a stretcher when Chinese troops attacked his unit’s position. He got off the stretcher, grabbed his rifle, and launched a one-man assault that killed 33 Chinese soldiers before the enemy wrestled the weapon from his hands. Wilson then kept fighting at close quarters with his entrenching shovel until he collapsed from his wounds. His solo attack broke up the assault, helped his company hold its ground, and later earned him the Medal of Honor.
