In July 1950, during the Korean War, about 200 U.S. soldiers, thought to be dead, unexpectedly reappeared after spending days behind enemy lines. They had been cut off and were trying to find their way back when a 10-year-old South Korean boy guided them through hostile territory. Following his lead, the battalion finally reached safety instead of being wiped out or captured. Grateful for his help, the soldiers made the boy their unit mascot.
