Sergeant David Bleak Barehanded Rampage

On June 14, 1952, near Minari-gol, South Korea, U.S. Army medic Sergeant David B. Bleak joined a 20-man patrol sent to probe Chinese positions and capture prisoners. When Chinese fire wounded several soldiers, he rushed forward under fire to treat them, then stormed an enemy trench and killed five Chinese soldiers, four of them with his bare hands. Later, he threw himself on a comrade to shield him from a grenade blast and was shot in the leg while trying to reach more wounded men. Despite his injury, Bleak dressed multiple wounds, carried a badly hurt soldier to safety, fought off two more attackers, and helped every member of the patrol return to United Nations lines, actions that earned him the Medal of Honor.
