Cave Diver Chooses Suicide Underwater

In 2002, 31-year-old Czech tourist Miroslav Kuklis joined a cave diving trip in Croatia and entered an underwater cave. When he became lost inside and ran out of oxygen, he stabbed himself in the chest with a knife to avoid the prolonged pain of drowning. Because of the knife wound, police initially treated the case as a homicide, but investigators later concluded that Kuklis had committed suicide in the cave.
