Byblos Port Names the Bible

In the ancient Greek world, the word "Bible" simply meant "book" or "scroll" rather than a specific holy text. The term came from Byblos, a Phoenician port city that served as the main hub where Egyptians exported papyrus to Greece. As papyrus shipments flowed through Byblos, its name transferred to the writing material itself, leaving a permanent mark on the Greek word for "book."
