Herm Pillars with Carved Genitals

In ancient Greece, sculptors created a strange statue type called the "herm," which put a head on top of a plain, squared stone pillar. Below it, instead of a full body, the only other carved detail was a set of male genitals placed at the right height on the otherwise flat shaft.
