In 326, Empress Fausta, the second wife of Constantine, allegedly fell in love with her stepson Crispus, who rejected her. She then accused him of impropriety, and the emperor ordered Crispus executed. Rumors later claimed Fausta had taken a slave as a lover, and that's when Constantine realized he had been misled, and he had Fausta killed by being boiled in an overheated bath.
