In 1976 in Pampa, Texas, popular bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman sat in a car outside a house while a friend went in to buy marijuana. During the deal the friend got into a fight with dealer Jerry Oliver and shot him dead, and Texas law treated Chapman as equally responsible because he was involved in the plan.
A jury convicted him of first-degree murder, and a judge sentenced him to five years in the Texas State Penitentiary, where he served about 18 months before parole. Because of that conviction, the United Kingdom later refused him a visa, barring the TV bounty hunter from entering the country for appearances such as Celebrity Big Brother.
