Venice Mocked Marco Millions

When Marco Polo returned to Venice from his long travels in Asia, he kept telling people about the enormous wealth, great cities, and powerful rulers he had seen. Many Venetians did not believe his stories and thought he exaggerated every detail. They began mocking him by calling him Messer Marco Milioni, or Mr. Marco Millions.
