WWII Army Orange Concentrate

During World War II, the U.S. Army asked food researchers to develop a better source of vitamin C for soldiers because troops disliked the vitamin C tablets they were given. In the early 1940s, they created concentrated orange juice that could be shipped and stored without spoiling. The new product gave soldiers an easy, palatable way to avoid scurvy. That wartime solution later became a staple in American kitchens.
