1974 Nobel Literature Swedish Academy Scandal

In 1974, the Swedish Academy awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature to two of its own members, Harry Martinson and Eyvind Johnson, a decision that drew heavy criticism. Martinson struggled with the backlash and in 1978 died by suicide after cutting his abdomen with scissors in a "hara-kiri-like" manner.
