Diocletian's Price Control Edict

In 301 AD, Roman Emperor Diocletian issued the Edict on Maximum Prices to curb runaway inflation across the empire. The edict set legal caps on hundreds of goods and services, including wages and trade prices. Anyone caught profiteering or violating the caps faced death for their crimes.
