Surgery Error Leads to Settlement

In Wichita Falls, Texas, 67-year-old Hurshell Ralls underwent bladder cancer surgery in 1999 and awoke to find doctors John S. Dryden and Farid Khoury had amputated his penis after they believed cancer had spread. A pathology test later indicated the penile tissue was not cancerous. In 2003, as jury hearings began, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement with undisclosed terms.
