Clementine Barnabet: The Voodoo Axe Killer

Between 1911 and 1912, Clementine Barnabet, a teenager from rural Louisiana, reportedly murdered and decapitated up to 35 people with an axe, claiming she was directed by a voodoo sect called the Church of Sacrifice. In 1912, at age 18, she was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for a string of killings, including that of a pastor's wife. In 1923, Barnabet escaped from prison and quietly vanished, and no confirmed trace of her has ever been found.
