Kerry Hamill's Khmer Rouge Confession

In 1978, New Zealander Kerry Hamill was sailing aboard his yacht, Foxy Lady, when it was captured by the Khmer Rouge after drifting into Cambodian waters. He and fellow crewmate John Dewhirst were detained at the notorious S-21 prison, tortured into signing "confessions," and eventually executed. In his forced confession, Kerry slipped in coded clues for his family, using his home phone number as supposed "CIA digits" and cheekily claiming Colonel Sanders was his superior officer, hoping his loved ones would decode the message. His younger brother Rob Hamill later confronted Khmer Rouge leaders in court, seeking closure and justice for Kerry's fate.
