In 1986, a woman named Cara Knott was found strangled near an abandoned freeway exit outside San Diego. Soon after her death, a local TV station filmed a safety segment with California Highway Patrol officer Craig Peyer, who advised women on how to stay safe when stopped by police at night. Viewers later noticed scratch marks on his face during the broadcast, which later linked him to Knott's murder. Peyer was convicted and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
