Around 2180 BCE, engineers in ancient Babylon supposedly built a tunnel beneath the Euphrates River, an audacious feat millennia ahead of its time. The passage, nearly a kilometer long and large enough for chariots, was said to link the royal palace to a temple across the river. Although its existence is still under debate, if confirmed, it would have preceded London's renowned Thames Tunnel by more than 4,000 years.
