In Disney's Mary Poppins (1964), Dick Van Dyke played Bert the chimney sweep with what became one of cinema's most infamous accents. Van Dyke later admitted his Cockney was "the most atrocious" ever attempted, though at the time he never realized it. None of the cast or crew corrected him, and the botched accent went on to become part of the film's legacy.
