CIA Sabotages Soviet Pipeline Software

In 1982, the CIA arranged for the KGB to steal control software for the Trans-Siberian natural gas pipeline, but the program had been secretly modified to fail. Once installed, the tampered code disrupted valve and pump operations, eventually triggering one of the largest non-nuclear explosions ever recorded. The sabotage was part of a covert operation during the Cold War known as the Farewell Dossier, aimed at undermining the Soviet economy.
