In the 1980s, a bug was discovered in the F-16 fighter jet's flight simulator that made the system dangerously unstable near the equator. The computer mishandled latitude calculations, which caused the aircraft to suddenly roll upside down whenever it crossed into the Southern Hemisphere. In the simulator, this flaw instantly killed the pilot, and the flaw came from a coordinate sign error in the code, which treated negative latitude values incorrectly.
